In weather this hot, it's very possible to develop hyperthermia. Hyperthermia is a blanket term for heat-related maladies: it can range from muscle cramps to stroke, and while it's especially common in children and the elderly, everyone is susceptible.

I would like to advise everyone in the City to take precautions against this possibility. Preventing heat-related conditions isn't difficult:

Wear light, loose-fitting clothing.

Wide-brimmed hats and hats with vents will help protect from the sun and heat.

Avoid strenuous exercise and enclosed spaces without temperature regulation.

Drink plenty of fluids, preferably water or fruit or vegetable juice.

If at all possible, avoid crowded areas.

Symptoms of hyperthermia include headache, low blood pressure (often manifested by dizziness or a fainting spell), and nausea. Depending on the severity of the case, some people, especially small children, will begin to convulse.

If you begin to suspect you're suffering from hyperthermia or dehydration, move to a cool area immediately and remove excess clothing if necessary. Taking a bath in cool water or using cold compresses will both help reduce your body's temperature, and drinking water will help rehydrate you. Tea, coffee, and alcohol will only make your symptoms worse, so avoid them.

I offer my skills as a doctor to anyone who finds themselves feeling ill today, but the fewer people I have to treat, the better. Please use common sense until this weather lets up.

I didn't appreciate waking up with only this to wear, but I guess a wardrobe change is no problem when the curse could have played around with the infirmary. It seems to be as modern as it ever was, though.

I've taken a complete blood count, and your hemoglobin level and red cell count are both well below normal levels. Additionally, your red blood cell distribution width is high, and a serum ferritin test shows that you have low levels of ferritin proteins.

Anemia caused by iron deficiency accompanied seems like the most logical diagnosis. It would explain the fatigue, weakness, and the craving for ice. However, your diet is rich enough in iron that you shouldn't be having any problems, and you haven't suffered excessive blood loss. There's the possibility that you've started consuming something that's interfering with your ability to take in iron, but it seems unlikely to me, as does the possibility of a genetic defect.

At this point, I have no real explanation for why you seem to have developed anemia. I'm willing to perform more tests to try and find the cause, but I can't promise that I'll be able to find an answer quickly.

In the mean time, I would suggest that you start some treatment. Iron and ascorbic acid supplements would be a good start, and if they don't make any difference, we can try another treatment method. I'll write you a prescription--I assume a pharmacy in the City will take it, though I admit I haven't had to prescribe anything here before.

For the time being, I'd also suggest avoiding coffee, tea, and milk, since they sometimes interfere with iron intake.

I also suspect that your blood pressure level could indicate hypertension, but I'll need to take your blood pressure again to be sure. If you have developed hypertension, I'd then need to take more blood samples to test for various causes.

I can deliver the samples I've used and your prescription, or they can be picked up at Serenity--whichever would be most convenient for you.

((OOC: I've tried my best to make the medicine accurate, but I am a lowly music major--please forgive anything I've messed up? ^^;;;))

I'm starting to feel like I just drank one of the study aid concoctions we mixed up for late nights in MedAcad...and all I've had is a glass of orange juice.
